The Municipal Election Commission of the Town of Edgefield announces a General Election for the Town of Edgefield to be Tuesday, April 3, 2018 for Mayor and Council Wards 1, 3, & 5. These terms will expire April 2022. The precincts and polling places for the election will be: Edgefield #1 - Edgefield Town Gym (380 Church Street), Edgefield #2 - American Legion (314 Penn Street).
Persons desiring to vote in the upcoming election must be registered no later than March 4, 2018. To register, one must contact the County Board of Voter Registration.
Citizens desiring to be a candidate for Council may file a statement of candidacy at Edgefield Town Hall, 400 Main Street, Edgefield, SC. Each candidate must complete a Statement of Economic Interests on line athttp://ethics.sc.gov. Each candidate must be a qualified registered elector. Candidates may file during regular business hours (8AM to 5PM) until Friday, February 2, 2018, 12 noon.
The filing fee for Mayor is $30.00 and the filing fee for Council is $15.00. This is a non-partisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot. The polls shall open at 7:00 AM on election day and close at 7:00 PM.
At 3:00 p.m. on the day of the election, the Municipal Election Commission will begin its examination of the absentee ballot return envelopes at Edgefield Town Hall, 400 Main Street, Edgefield, SC 29824 (Bacon Street Entrance).
On Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Noon at Edgefield Town Hall, the Municipal Election Commission will hold a hearing to determine the validity of ballots challenged in this election and to certify the election. Any runoff will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
